The Next Litter

The Blue Fairy Pack is getting ready for puppies! Freddie is now fully mature and we completed all breed-specific health testing to produce healthy puppies. It was not easy to be patient and wait for our girl to come in heat, but she finally did just a few days ago. Breeding will take place in the next couple of weeks and if all goes well, puppies will be born in mid/late August 2026. Fingers crossed!

We selected a UK-based sire, Ottaryx Ouzel, not only to complement her conformation and temperament, but also to improve genetic diversity for the breed and our breeding program.

Can’t get enough of Otterhound action? Subscribe to our Blue Fairy Otterhounds YouTube channel. There are over 500 videos, some going back to 2010 (sorry for the quality, but they are still fun!).

All Blue Fairy dogs that participate in our breeding program, both females and males, consistently meet health screening recommendations for Otterhounds. They are tested for hip and elbow dysplasia, Glanzmann’s Thrombasthenia (every other generation), participate in the DNA repository and receive their OFA CHIC numbers. Results are published in the Otterhound Database and OFA records, and our website.

In February 2013, Blue Fairy Otterhounds have been recognized as a Breeder of Merit by the American Kennel Club. AKC Breeder of Merit participants are dedicated to breeding beautiful purebred dogs whose appearance, temperament, and ability are true to their breed. Blue Fairy’s first litter was born in October 2007, 5 females and 1 male. Mamba and Leeloo. remained with us and the rest is history!

Blue Fairy Flashbacks

In August 2017 our puppy girl Rachel joined the ranks of Blue Fairy Champions. She is now CH Blue Fairy’s Against All Odds.

In February 2017, our Bella became the first Blue Fairy Bronze Grand Champion, joining a pretty exclusive group of only a handful Otterhounds in the country. Great honor!

In January 2017 Bella received the invitation to the 2017 Westminster Dog Show in New York City, ranked as the #1 Otterhound female in the country. How cool is that..?!

We ended 2016 with a big bang! In December 2016, our Bella competed in the Best in Show ring at the Malibu Kennel Club show.

In August 2016, the entire Blue Fairy Pack took a trip to Greeley, CO for the 36th Otterhound National Specialty dog show. The entire pack participated and ended up with ribbons and trophies, even our Seniors Mamba and Leeloo. Ozzy won the Best Stud Dog award and met 4 of the puppies he sired in the last 2 years. Bella took the most prizes, competing against top 40 Otterhounds in the country: Best of Breed at the Rocky Mountain Hound Association show and Select Bitch at the National Specialty. We are very proud of our girl.

In 2016, our Pack grew again: In May 2016 we decided to keep puppy Rachel from our Gr8ful Eight litter. Let the puppy fun begin (again!)

In 2015, our dogs continued competing in the conformation ring with great results: multiple Best of Breed and group placements at Hound and All Breed shows. We also showed in the International IABC shows, earning Championship titles and medals. Ozzy ended up being ranked as as #4 Otterhound in 2015 Breed Standings. Good boy Ozzy 🙂

2015 was also our first competitive year in Rally. Our superstar Bella earned her Rally Novice title! She competed in Rally trails at Bahia Sur Kennel Club shows in June 2015 and finished with high qualifying scores of 97, 92 and 97. In December 2015, we received very exciting news that she was invited to the 3rd AKC Rally National Championship. Eligibility criteria included 3 scores of 90 or higher, which is an accomplishment for any Otterhound. She was the only Otterhound qualified and invited to the event. We are very very proud!

2014 was fabulous: our beautiful Bella is the new AKC Grand Champion, only 6 months after earning her championship! She is now GCH Blue Fairy’s Breaking Dawn. We could not be more happy and proud!

Bella’s littermate Addie got her AKC Championship title in August 2014. CH Blue Fairy’s Paper Moon is the 9th Blue Fairy Champion!!

Phoebe joined the Blue Fairy Champions Club! Our little girl earned her AKC title in July 2014. Her official new name: CH Blue Fairy’s Legends of the Fall.

Bella’s debut at the January 2013 Hound Show resulted in her winning Best in Puppy Sweepstakes, Winners Bitch and Best of Winners ribbons and her first 4-point Major. Pretty impressive for a 10-month old puppy, first time in the ring.

In August 2013, our boy Ozzy completed requirements for the AKC Grand Championship title. He’s the very first Blue Fairy Grand Champion.

2012 brought us yet another AKC Champion: CH Blue Fairy’s Wizard of Oz.

In 2011 & 2012 we continued with conformation, and learning all about basic obedience and rally. Starr, Mamba and Leeloo earned their Rally Novice titles, which was challenging to say the least!

In 2009, our first Otterhound Starr was inducted to the Otterhound Club of America (OHCA) Registry of Merit for producing 5 AKC Champions: CJ, Angel, Skye, Mamba and Leeloo. Pretty awesome 🙂
